A Boston area report details the abduction of 10 year old Peggy McMath in Harwich Massachusetts. Investigators say a jobless Black chauffeur masterminded the ruse using staged calls to summon Peggy from school. Neil C McMath offers immunity to the kidnapper if Peggy is returned unharmed. Peggy was last seen outside Harwich Center grammar school and has not been found.
Washington May 3. Secretary Roper reports definite improvement in business during the past week based on commodity market rises and improved industrial activity. He notes some price gains stem from shifting cash into equities but stresses progress comes when goods satisfy human needs and employment rises from replacing them.
Earle N. Genzberger was nominated for commander of the Silver Bow post of the American Legion at a meeting last night. Election will be May 17. Nominations also named first and second vice commanders and other posts, with plans for Memorial observances and an upcoming county council meeting May 12.
A blanket of heavy snow over 20 inches deep blocked the Harding highway near the Continental divide summit yesterday morning. Traffic stood still for about two hours as motorists shoveled to clear the right of way. A slow plow was summoned to reopen the mountain pass.
Judge Charles Bradley, 53, says he faced mob violence after resisting orders to halt farm foreclosures in Le Mars. Military court testimony described threats to hang him as martial law spread, with over a hundred farmers arrested in the crackdown.
Teresa Quirk of 1217 West Granite sues in district court for a writ of mandate to force Silver Bow county to restore her name to the mothers pension rolls and grant $20 monthly plus $1,000 general damages. She says her financial condition was unchanged since three years on the rolls and seeks back pay and future benefits after being removed with 89 other county recipients last month. The hearing before Judge T. E. Downey is scheduled for Monday.
Havana Cuba May 3 UP Ann Harding and Alexander Kirkland stars narrowly escaped drowning when their small sail boat capsized two miles off Jaimanitas Yacht club. Cuban sailor Magin Alvarez Piedra drowned. Harding Kirkland and Marie Lombard were rescued by Francisco Mir aboard an English yacht. Kirkland suffered bruised legs.
T. V. Soong of the Chinese government and nine aides traveled in a special car, refusing to discuss talks with President Roosevelt with reporters. A secretary offered a rare glimpse, saying the minister would not speak to press and would meet the president first. The envoy described the Washington trip as at the president's request and conducted under strict etiquette.

President Roosevelt ordered cancellation of a planned radio broadcast to the Chamber of Commerce of the United States tomorrow night. Officials had arranged the airing but the president asked it be cancelled, noting he would speak extemporaneously on reflation plans of the government.

May 1 balance in city funds reached a multi year low despite April operating expenses of 26 251 20. The city treasurer report shows last compiled by John L Sullivan who left office May 1. April receipts totaled 18 744 75 with 8 779 from licenses 3 884 46 taxes 254 police court fines and 5 560 67 other sources.
