A Montana editorial discusses Initiative 35 to accept federal highway funds for Montana roads. The body of H. L. Everett, 32, a prohibition agent from Jackson, was found in his wrecked car by a highway near Collins Mississippi. A passing motorist saw the smashed bridge railing and Everett's car submerged below. Authorities say he was ambushed, his body bearing shotgun wounds, and his car appeared to have careened from the bridge.
In Madeira's capital Funchal the rebel junta, which seized power a month ago, surrendered unconditionally to Magalhead Correia, minister of marine, as Portugal's land sea and air forces bombarded the island. Casualties were small and no civilians were harmed.
A blazing fire in Frazer Montana last night destroyed the Frazer Motor Sales garage and the Stewart store building which housed the post office. Loss is estimated at 15000 to 20000 dollars with most contents ruined though some cars and post office records survived and insurance is believed to partly cover the damage. Both buildings were owned by Lien and Peterson. A bucket brigade is Frazer's only protection against fire.
E. W. Ted Renfro veteran member of the Butte Gun club has just won the world live third shoot championship and set scoring records. He helped save the United States team championship at Monte Carlo and will be honored with a banquet upon his return to Butte as intimates recall years at the traps and Red Rock lake duck resort.
The 1931 graduating class of Murray hospital training school for nurses will hear Rev. Thomas Ashworth at 11 a.m. Sunday at St. John's Episcopal church. Alumni will host a dinner Monday at Lipson's, organized by Miss Lydia Gudmanson and Mrs. Richard Williamson. Commencement Friday at St. John's features Willard Thompson of the chamber of commerce as speaker.
A list of annual conference dates and venues for the Methodist Episcopal Church South was issued by church officials. District 14 will meet with Bishop Arthur J. Moore presiding, Pacific region in San Francisco on July 22 and Northwest region in Stevensville, Montana on August 6.
Chicago May 2. Capone the famed gangster and public enemy No 1 was hunted today in connection with a charred body found near Barrington identified tentatively as Mike Heitler. Several Capone allies were captured including Dago Mangano and Tony Accordo. police searched for Capone at the Lexington hotel and Circus cafe associate figures.
New York police report plainclothes patrolman Bernard Sherry entering a Third Avenue restaurant during a robbery. He killed one gunman and wounded the other after fifteen shots were exchanged, but Sherry was wounded in the abdomen.
In Pocatello Idaho May 2 a traveling salesman M J Clark fatally shot Larry Innes 40 after a trivial remark and minutes later killed himself in his basement apartment. Police were alerted as Mrs Clark attempted to call for help and officers found Clark after he crawled to the street.
George Fisher Baker a 91 year old financier and reputedly the nation s third richest citizen lies gravely ill with pneumonia at his New York home. His son George Baker Jr. said the financier developed pneumonia Thursday after a day on business and had grown steadily worse.
James Nannery described as one of the nation's most dangerous criminals was brought back to Sing Sing from New Jersey after arrest by a small town officer. He was placed in solitary confinement with guards and troopers escorting him, and the $1.83 found on him was deposited in the prison safe.
Ami Schuster was killed and her attorney Israel Siegel wounded when Roy Schuster opened fire in Siegel's office during alimony talks. He fled after firing five shots, descending 14 flights to escape into the street.
Ogallala Neb May 2. Fred Kuntz 37 a farm hand is in a hospital with a gunshot wound to the head Authorities said he attempted to assault his employer's 13 year old daughter and shot himself when followed by officers
In Billings, a young man and a woman robbed E. R. Miller, a Gage hotel clerk, of 87 dollars in cash and a 20 dollar check early this morning. The pair, who fled in a sedan, forced Miller to the basement for more cash, and authorities suspect familiarity with the hotel.
United States Chamber of Commerce faced sharp critique from Republican and independent senators in Washington May 2 4 for failing to offer an economic plan at its Atlantic City meeting Senator LaFollette Wisconsin accused the group of shifting blame for the nation’s low mood and economic troubles.
Paul Bunyan owned by L. M. Severson won the $15,000 added Dixie Handicap at Pimlico in Baltimore on May 2. Frisius Bellaire won second, Mam Tim finished third as 25,000 fans watched in muddy conditions.

In Klamath Falls Oregon on May 2 Mrs Nina Henson 39 shot and killed herself when federal and county prohibition agents came to serve a liquor law warrant. Her 17 year old son witnessed the incident and accused the officers, while agents said she ran a beer garden and found in the home bottles and beer cases.
A bomb exploded at the residence of Junnosuke Inouye, minister of finance, in Tokyo today. No one was injured. Fragments struck the nearby residence of Princess Kuni, mother of the empress.
In Reykjavik on May 2 Captain Albin Ahrenberg Swedish aviator started toward Greenland to search for Augustine Courtauld the missing British explorer but returned to Reykjavik shortly after. The steamer Odin carrying a search airplane radioed that due to serious motor trouble the mission must be abandoned and the plane will be brought back for repairs. Other expeditions continuing to seek Courtauld remain unaffected.
Gabrielle Chanel announces plans to import 12 New York mannequins to model against Paris staff. American models would earn 35 dollars weekly, while local Parisiennes have long worked for 5 to 10 dollars. The move sparks discontent among the Paris staff who feel threatened by the higher pay and new talent.
Dr. David Starr Jordan, longtime president emeritus of Stanford University, remained gravely ill at his Palo Alto home as of May 2, with Dr. R. V. Lee reporting the 80 year old educator growing weaker and having trouble speaking with family.
Bryan Untlecht the 13 year old Colorado boy who has been President Hoover's guest at the White House this week will visit Chicago and Kansas City on his way home to Towner Colo The White House announced this afternoon Untlecht left Washington at 3 25 p m today for Chicago He will depart Chicago Sunday night for Kansas City and later Denver with a secret service man from the White House.
Twenty three bronze medals for acts of heroism were awarded by the Carnegie Hero Fund commission. Pensions totaling six hundred dollars yearly were granted to dependents of three heroes who died. Money awards totaling twenty thousand dollars were distributed, including eight thousand for educational purposes in five cases. Pennsylvania led with six awards, followed by Ohio four, New York two, and several states with one each.
Rain affected major league games including Philadelphia at Brooklyn and Boston at New York with a doubleheader washed out. Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh 11 to 5 in nine innings while St. Louis defeated Chicago 6 to 3 in nine innings.
First game saw a 6 to 3 finish with Ivan Rion 65 delivering a six run effort and pitching by Fischer Hadley and Hargrave. Second game ended 3 to 1 with Mostara Marberry Hadley and Hargrave securing the win for their team. Rain affected New York-Philadelphia play.
