Archie Coutts 68 a Butte resident died at home on Tuesday afternoon after a lengthy illness. A World War I veteran and former miner he was active in the Butte Hill first aid teams and Silver Bow Post No 1 American Legion. Survivors include a son Charles and a daughter Dallas Hayden with several grandchildren. Last rites play Friday at 2 p.m. at Duggan Merrill Mortuary with interment in Mountain View Cemetery Legion Plot.

Billy G. Smith testified in District Court that he T. J. Adams and former Livingston Police Chief Keith Moran burglarized the Downer Lumber Co. in January 1951. Smith described plans, entry behind a lumber yard, and moving machines to Moran's home porch, with Moran watching for the night watchman.

George Griswold 71 Noted Mining Consultant Dies in Montana
George G. Griswold Jr., internationally known mining engineer, died Tuesday in a local hospital. He lived at 1117 W Platinum and had just returned from Arizona with his wife. A pioneer in metallurgical engineering, he helped advance flotation methods with cyanides and halogens, developed a three product mill in 1934, and mentored at the Montana Society of Engineers where he served as president in 1938. He held honors from Colorado School of Mines and was regarded as one of Montana’s leading mining figures.

A runoff election will decide whether Mine-Mill or the United Steelworkers represents Anaconda smelter workers.
