Potts Resigns as Galen State Hospital Superintendent

Weatherman forecasts more rain in Midwest
The flood waters receded slightly in the northern Mississippi River Valley but danger remains. The river stood at 42.8 feet in St Louis, down from 43, with a 13.3 foot rise above flood stage. The forecast called for more rain and storms tonight as the Army Corps of Engineers rebuilt sandbags and pumps.

Berger Sentenced to 25 Years for Wife Slaying

Kemper arraigned on eight murder counts in California
Edmund Kemper III 24, described as in excellent psychiatric health, was arraigned in Santa Cruz on eight murder counts. He was led into court handcuffed, with a large security detail, after being arrested in Pueblo, Colorado. Prosecutors said seven victims were decapitated and some dismembered, with several body parts found in the Santa Cruz area and others at burial sites he indicated. Dist. Atty. Peter Chang seeks a grand jury review with a May 21 plea date set.
