Washington April 30 A Morgenthau warning that the House tax bill missed Roosevelt’s target set the Senate finance committee to seek additional taxes totaling 337 million dollars. He forecast a fiscal year deficit near 5.996 billion with potential tax and debt implications.
The Ethiopian government evacuated the capital as Italian forces push across the Debra Birhan plain. Italian air raids target Addis Ababa while Haile Selassie orders 3,000 troops to withdraw behind the city in a bid for a bloodless occupation.
Governors Elmer Holt and C Ben Ross led a daylong conference with state officials to oppose a federal authority plan for Columbia River projects and to push for state ratification by four state legislatures. A swift-moving tornado swept a 50 mile Northwestern Iowa strip today killing at least two people and injuring 24. George Roskins a farm hand was killed southwest of Milford and Mrs. Julius Heuer near Everly died. The twister hit Sheldon Everly Terrace Park and West Okoboji lake near Milford before heading to Estherville. Fifteen cottages and eight farm homes were demolished at Terrace Park.
Al Jolly, taxi driver, was bound with necktie and muffler by two youths near the county farm and robbed of his cab and $12. He freed himself, notified police and sheriff, and a manhunt followed with sightings and alerts across towns. The marked cab was a key detail in the report.
Washington April 30 Colonel Joseph I. McMullen former chief of the War department patents section was found guilty tonight by a district Supreme Court jury of taking a $1,500 fee from a private corporation while on active duty.
Eleven persons were killed when a German military airplane crashed during night air protection maneuvers at Neu Ulm Bavaria, authorities reported early today. The incident occurred Tuesday night, with Berlin noting the loss in Germany.
As part of Child Health Week the Butte Parent-Teacher association announced free clinics for pre school children next Tuesday and Wednesday. Today is Child Health Day and a parent contact survey will begin to reach families with children entering school next September.

The Hayden Cartwright bill received a favorable Senate report authorizing 24 million dollars for federal road building in cooperation with states for 1938 and a like amount for 1939. The reported bill totals regular federal aid of 125 million dollars plus forest highways roads and trails.
A miniature Century of Progress at the Montana School of Mines attracted a large crowd on the hilltop campus last night. Montana expected to see generally fair conditions on Friday and Saturday with warmer temperatures in the southeast portion on Friday.
Los Angeles April 30 A political deal offered Dr Francis K Townsend 12000 to support Governor Frank Merriam in the 1934 California race was described before a congressional sub committee. F E Tomlinson claimed Townsend never received the payment though he displayed Merriam photos in Townsend Weekly.
Butte boosters plan to join a West Yellowstone goodwill tour from Ennis to promote Yellowstone park travel. The caravan forms at Ennis at 10 a.m with carloads proceeding to the park entrance for lunch. Leaders include Ben Hardin Pat Gagner Harry Rice and Bob Veitch as they seek wider support from locals.
