U S Pushes Plan to End National Armies in Nine Years

The United States will seek at the Geneva disarmament conference a plan to eliminate national armies within nine years and replace them with a United Nations force. The proposal aims to counter a Soviet draft for four years, with U S officials planning to add international controls and a UN peace force to uphold law as national defenses are dismantled.

Guido Installed as Provisional Argentine President Amid Crisis

Senate president pro tem Jose M. Guido was installed as provisional president of Argentina ending a 12 day political crisis sparked by the military ouster and banishment of Arturo Frondizi. The armed forces lifted the alert as Guido pledged to ban Peronist activity while Frondizi, in a personal sense, approved the action.

Byron White Named To Vacancy on Supreme Court

President Kennedy named Deputy Attorney General Byron R. White to the Supreme Court to succeed Charles Evans Whittaker. Liquor Store Clerks Vote Against AFL-CIO Pact

In Helena, state liquor store clerks in 11 cities vote 60 to 22 against renewing their AFL-CIO Clerks' Union contract. The pact, covering stores in Billings, Butte, Great Falls, Helena, Missoula, Livingston, Havre, Kalispell, Whitefish, Deer Lodge and Anaconda, will end April 30 with no changes to employment policies.

Woman Dies From Anaconda Collision Injuries

Ruth M. Stroud, 62, of Leadore Idaho, died in an Anaconda hospital from injuries after a head on crash east of the Smelter City last Saturday night. The Montana 1962 traffic toll rose to 38 with her death. coroner to hold inquest next week.

Concrete Pour Begins At Butte Anaconda Plant

First concrete was poured Friday at the site of Butte's new Anaconda Company multimillion dollar copper ore concentrating plant. A two yard bucket poured concrete into a foundation mat in the red mill section as workers rushed to complete initial works.

National Congress of Parents and Teachers questionnaire rejected at the Montana PTA convention in Great Falls after a stormy session with 400 delegates. The adopted resolution opposes federal intervention in education and instructs Montana officers to oppose federal aid and interference.

Community Hospital Building Program to Begin This Month

The first phase of a 24 million building program for St. James Community Hospital will start April 23 with bids opened April 18 for remodeling and expansion. The project adds 45 beds to the 160 bed facility and moves pediatrics to an outpatient area to free rooms for adults as part of a plan toward eventual closing of St. James.

Polling Places Set for April 7 School Election

The board designates polling sites for the April 7 school election. Voters will choose three trustees for terms of three, three, and two years among Tracy Shea Fraser Conway Kneebone and an Independent and United slate. Weather outlook for Warm er Butte region through Sunday

Partly cloudy and warmer today through Sunday with highs near 45 today and 40 to 55 Saturday. East of Divide expect slightly warmer highs 40 to 55 and lows 15 to 32. West of Divide sees fair conditions with highs 42 to 58 and Saturday night lows 20 to 35.

Butte Home Damaged by Youthful Vandals

A residence at 2200 Carolina suffered severe damage during the night when vandals smashed every window. Police reported $200 in glass breakage, doors broken in, and articles scattered. The home is owned by Denny Glass, a former Butte amateur boxer and skier. The city directory lists the house as vacant, though it contains some furnishings.

Libel suit filed against union seeks 125000 damages

Anaconda attorney Wade J. Dahood filed a libel action in Clerk Frank B. McGrath's office seeking 125000 damages from the International Union of Mine Mill and Smelter Workers. The suit cites a circular alleging an anti union drive led by a lawyer and employers group with help from Kellogg Idaho and an improperly led local union. Damages include 25000 actual and 100000 exemplary.

Steel Decision Expected Today

The Wage Policy Committee of the United Steelworkers Union meets in Pittsburgh to decide if the two year contract with 10 cents per hour in benefits for the first year and no wage raise is acceptable. McDonald will outline the provisions to 170 members from Gary Indiana East Chicago Hammond and Aliquippa and other mill towns at 11 a.m. EST. A wage reopening clause is planned for the second year.
