Beet labor prospects better than since the war following approval of 1948 sugar beet scale by Beet Growers Marketing Association of Montana. Contract base price 840 per hundred pounds with 1 2 percent sugar content. Farmers receive 10.80 per ton plus 2.64 government payment totaling 13.44, down 1.90 from last year. Contracts to be issued to fieldmen by Thursday.

Three Women Die In Grenade Attack At Luzon Event

Russian Soldiers Kill Three in Dance Hall Fight
The interior ministry said Russian soldiers killed three Austrians with submachine guns Monday night in a dance hall in Josefberg, 45 miles south of Vienna, in the Russian occupation zone. Nineteen were wounded after a fight between Austrian civilians and a Russian soldier. The soldier returned with two companions and opened fire.
