Prominent Butte Physician Dr Samuel E Schwartz Dies
Dr Samuel E Schwartz a leading Butte physician and surgeon and former president of the Silver Bow County Medical Society died after a lingering illness. Born in New York City on October 30 1875 he studied at Columbia and New York institutions before moving to Montana in 1898. Kauf Retrial to Be Requested in Murder Case
Application for resetting the murder case of Howard H. Kauf will be made in district court Monday morning by deputies from County Attorney Frank J. Roe’s office. The present term will seek retrial after a 11-1 deadlocked jury reported it was hopelessly deadlocked after more than 15 hours of deliberation. Kauf, 33, a former SeaBee, was charged with murdering his ex wife Hazel at a downtown night club soon after her Feb 8 divorce. Bonds of 15000 remained in force and were continued by court order. Kauf exited with his mother, who broke down when the jury verdict was announced.
