In a solemn military ceremony the body of the 34th president was brought to the National Cathedral. The flag draped casket was received in the Bethlehem Chapel as mourners gathered with restrained ceremony.
Dwight D. Eisenhower will lie in state beneath the Capitol Rotunda. The ceremony marks the eighth presidential lie in state in the memorial hall, joining Lincoln and other honorees since 1863. The Rotunda, normally a bustling space, becomes solemn for state funerals.
New York AP reports networks plan extensive Eastern Time coverage of Dwight D. Eisenhower funeral events from casket removal at the cathedral to interment at Memorial Library. Broadcast windows span Sunday through Wednesday with later viewing options and ongoing public access at Memorial Chapel.
New York report portrays Dwight D. Eisenhower as reluctant to run for president. He feared a life under constant protection and saw the role as having little real power, preferring a ceremonial elder statesman path over political firefights.
The city clerk's office will be open Monday to allow voting an absentee ballot. Carlos Sullivan city clerk said due to the approaching general election he will keep his office open to accommodate absentee voters. All other city hall offices will be closed.

The Soviet foreign ministry announced a four man delegation led by Marshal Vasily I Chuykov and Vasily V Kuznetsov will travel from Moscow to Washington on an I 18 flight for President Eisenhowers funeral. Zhukov was not cleared for the trip due to poor health.
Washington AP report cites economist Burns urging abolition of the five year 27 billion dollar Model Cities plan. Moynihan defends the program while White House aides dispute Burns position and say no firm stance has been taken.
Voters in Butte School District 1 will decide on April 5 whether to approve a record next year budget of $6,268,318.70, funding a 36 mill levy and major shifts in operating costs. The measure includes $1,246,646.29 from the levy, with the rest from permissive levy and aid. The vote also fills three school trustee seats.
