Hundreds Visit Butte Regional Science Fair in Civic Center
Despite poor weather, hundreds of Butte residents and visitors from seven Montana counties attended the Butte Regional Science Fair at the civic center. Nearly 400 youths are displaying science projects across about 400 exhibits, with prizes to be awarded Saturday night at 9. The fair is organized by the Butte Regional Science Fair Association and run by the Butte High School Science Club under W. T. Barry, with Silver Bow, Deer Lodge, Granite, Powell, Madison, Beaverhead and Jefferson counties represented in both divisions. The exhibit will reopen Saturday at 1 and stay open until 11.

Roped by Truck Dragging Man Dragged Downtown Street
Arthur McGillis, 38, was on a curb waiting to cross a downtown Toronto street when a dangling tow rope from a truck lashed around his neck. He was dragged for about 20 seconds before the rope released him and left him dazed but uninjured. The truck drove away.

Chinook Farmer Perishes in Fire
Thomas A. Howard, 73, Blaine County farmer, died in a house fire that leveled his Chinook residence early Friday. A neighbor spotted flames at about 4 a.m. and firefighters found the body after the blaze was out. Howard, a widower, will be buried in Clarkston, Washington, after funeral services in Chinook Monday afternoon.

Car Injuries Fatal To Montana Woman
Mrs. James E. Ririe of Stevensville died in a Hamilton hospital from injuries in a highway crash Wednesday. The pickup she drove swerved on a county road south of Stevensville and overturned on the road shoulder. Her death raised Montana’s death toll to 32 for the year, one less than last year.
