The bodies of Mrs. Richard Cook, 18, and her husband, 18, were found near a Riverside quarry after being struck. Their eight month old baby was found unharmed nearby. Sgt. Lawrence J. Walker, 20, was charged with a serious case and holding against will in the brutal slaying.
Riverside California March 29 A stocky Negro Air Force sergeant was charged with the brutal slaying of Richard Cook 18 and the kidnapping and shooting of his wife Doris 18 at an isolated rock quarry. The infant Philip eight months old was found nearby alive. Walker 20 of Newark New Jersey stationed at March Air Force Base also faces charges in the February abduction of Mrs Betty Maund at a Riverside park. Mrs Maund identified Walker as her assailant. Autopsy figures show Mrs Cook lived six hours after being wounded.
Berlin dispatch reports Russia refusing American British protests over the shooting of a 73 passenger bus by East German police. American Maj. Gen. Mathewson and British Maj. Gen. Bourne pressed for punishment and clear orders, but Sergei Dengin replied to reject the representations.
Two teenagers Shirley Smith and Sherman Smith told Sheriff Warren A. Woody they were attacked early Thursday by an assailant who drenched them with grease, struck the boy, and set fire to mattresses. Police say the aim was to render them unconscious and burn the house with the family inside. Burns, cuts, and head injuries were reported by Dr. C A Campbell. Grease and rags covered the home and a wall fire was started. The Smith family are the sole occupants of the residence.
President Truman said his administration is taking positive steps to fight crime and denied any plan to fire Ambassador William O Dwyer or White House aide Donald Dawson amid Senate investigations. He also avoided announcing re election plans and commented on Korea and India aid.

In Tokyo a Far East Air Force court martial sentenced 20 year old Corp Carl E Mills of Sayre Oklahoma to 20 years in prison on charges of trying to sell military secrets to a man he believed to be a Japanese Communist agent.
The Senate extended the life of its crime investigating committee for 30 days to prepare a report on its nationwide study of organized crime. The panel may push for further city by city crime studies beyond April 30 and recommended contempt proceedings against racketeer Frank Costello. President Truman praised the committee’s work while noting crime is everyone’s duty and citing 36 000 federal cases last year.
New York reports three Americans Julius Rosenberg Ethel Rosenberg and Morton Sobell were convicted of conspiring to steal wartime secrets including A bomb data for the Soviet Union. Judge Kaufman called the treason loathsome and set April 5 for sentencing with possible death or up to 30 years imprisonment.
The United States Air Force Globemaster, missing over the Atlantic since Good Friday, was blown to bits in a massive explosion likely killing all 53 aboard. A rescue boat reached the site before dawn but no survivors were reported as 25 Air Force planes joined the search for the missing crew of the Far East Air Forces 19th bomb group.
Richard Zimmer, 30, recounted a liquor store robbery where three armed men stole $40 then, after a customer handed over his wallet, one robber returned it and said he needed it more. The bandits left Zimmer tied up five miles away but Zimmer later revealed he kept $125 in another pocket.
