Robbers Lie In Wait For Seven Hours To Loot Wieboldt Store
A seven man gang seized control of the Wieboldt department store at Sixty third and Halsted in Chicago and for seven hours blew the safe and escaped with about 35000 in cash. They overpowered watchman Henry McIvor and engineer Chris Swanson then forced McIvor to perform time clock rounds to avoid triggering alarms. After daybreak the alarm system failed and the robbers finished cracking the vault before leaving. McIvor freed himself later and alerted police, who suspected one member hid in the store prior to closing.
