Montana Senate debates redirecting hotel tax funds

Montana lawmakers weigh SB 145 to divert half of the bed tax revenue from the Department of Commerce and three quarters of the general fund to offset residential property taxes. The plan would require cities and counties to use the funds locally, amid a tourism promotion system seen as successful in drawing new residents. The bill passed a preliminary vote 27-23 with Democrats split, two switching to yes.

Tagging west slope cutthroat trout near Silver Bow Creek

Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks technicians Elam Verling and Rotar tagged several westslope cutthroat and brook trout during electro fishing on Silver Bow Creek near Rocker. An acoustic tag aids research on habits and mortality, with 38 tags started and 6 remaining. George Grant Chapter Trout Unlimited funded the tags. the project began in March and faced weather-related tagging delays.

Mulcahy named assistant director at Butte Archives

Butte native Lindsay Lambrecht Mulcahy is appointed assistant director of the Butte-Silver Bow Archives after years as an administrative assistant and curator. She earned history degrees from Montana State University and has worked with the Mai Wah Society and World Museum of Mining while teaching local history. She is married to Scott Mulcahy with two daughters Colie and Rizzie and has led online tours and ABCs of Butte projects.
