At least 126 000 steel workers are set to receive a 10 percent raise starting April 1 with more than 140 000 awaiting confirmation that the increase will extend across the industry. Washington March 28 After eight months of talks the copper industry reached a verbal code of fair competition with the national recovery administration. Deputy Administrator H O King said a formal document would be prepared and submitted by the United States Copper Association for approval. The code retains the administration’s sales agreement and includes undisclosed conciliatory changes. Anaconda Copper Mining opposed the sales terms.
President Roosevelt boarded the yacht Nourmahal at Jacksonville and set course for southern waters for a week of fishing and relaxation. He indicated no new instructions from Washington, stating he sought real rest as the nation watches developments at home. The destroyer U S Ellis trailed offshore as he waved farewell to onlookers.
