Washington March 27 Leaders from both parties counted votes as the Senate neared a decision on submitting trade agreements to ratification. A Republican cited a poll showing 47 supporting the requirement to 44 against with five doubtful, including Bailey Holt Schwellenbach Pepper Donahey. If a tie occurs Vice President Garner could swing to the administration. Debates featured O Mahoney and Vandenberg for ratification limits and George against. The measure would extend three years presidential authority to alter tariff rates before June 12.

Berlin Fire Rages At Industrial Plant In Wilhelmsruh
Berlin firefighters aided by rain and snow contained a two hour blaze at a plant six miles north of central Berlin. The site, described officially as an electrical products plant, reportedly produced small arms munitions. No casualties were reported as residents heard explosions during the fire, which began about 10 p.m. and ended after midnight. The city’s broadcasting station went off air as the fire blazed, lighted the northern sky.

Milner hotel room burlesque gem burglary investigated
