Congress passed a $24.6 billion anti recession tax cut package on Wednesday and sent it to President Ford amid expectations of a likely veto. The measure includes rebate checks and broad tax reductions for nearly all Americans.
Clerks at Albertson's Eggers IGA and Buttrey Food Stores may strike Thursday morning if they reject the Silver Bow Employers Association offer. Safeway clerks settled with a $1.40 pay raise over three years. Eggers and IGA plan to stay open, with union officials not expecting pickets at those stores. Negotiations have been ongoing since January.
President Nguyen Van Thieu pledged a fight to the death to defend Da Nang as Communists advance threaten South Vietnam. Viet Cong reportedly raised its flag over Hue while a crackdown on suspected plotters linked to former premier Ky unfolded amid mounting political turmoil and refugee evacuations.
