FBI Nabs Klansmen in Alabama Slaying
Four Ku Klux Klan members from the Birmingham area were arrested in Lowndesboro Alabama on charges of conspiracy in the highway ambush slaying of a white civil rights worker near Big Swamp. President Johnson announced the arrests in Washington and said he would intensify the campaign against the Klan.

Crash Kills Boy in Haze Near Rapelje
A two car collision at the crest of a hill five miles west of Rapelje killed 16 year old John Leroy Viets. The other driver, 39 year old Paul Rouane of Columbus, was hospitalized with cuts bruises and a chest injury. Montana Highway Patrolman Wayne Michaels cited haze and fog that reduced visibility on the Rapelje Gibson road. The death raises the 1965 traffic count to 45.

Flaming three-truck wreck injures two Montana men
A fiery crash near Marias Pass on U.S. 2 involving two fuel tankers and a semimailer grocery rig injured two drivers. Larry Schuchard of Great Falls and DeWayne Johnson of Whitefish were hospitalized with facial burns and extensive injuries while a third driver, Glen Mc Namus, was not injured. flames rose 200 feet above the road and melted snow nearby. The blaze closed the highway for hours before one-way traffic resumed.

Butte Pastor Survives Train Car Crash
The Rev. Alfred H. Downs, 79, of 15 E. Silver, was treated at Silver Bow General Hospital after a Friday collision at a crossing with a truck and a Northern Pacific local freight. Deputies said both vehicles were traveling south and the train struck the pickup’s left rear, throwing it into a ditch. Downs sustained rib injuries and was the truck’s sole occupant. Engineer R. D. Ebert of Livingston operated the train.

Butte Youth Knifed in Street Fight Injures 17
A 17 year old Butte boy Daniel Edward Frodsham was wounded Friday afternoon in a fight near his home on Second Street. He suffered a bad side wound requiring 19 stitches at a doctor’s office but was not hospitalized. Police later apprehended the three youths believed involved.

William Carpenter Dies at 88 Noted Butte Sportsman
William Carpenter 88 of 100 S Emmet Ave died near midnight Thursday in a local hospital after hospitalization since March 3. He retired July 1 1956 after 64 years with Anaconda Co. and its subsidiaries, ending 33 years as chief clerk in the mines office. Born Oct 30 1876 in Winnemucca Nev he moved to Butte 80 years ago. Survived by widow Sadie, daughter Mrs Jay Bass, two grandchildren Terry and Tim Bass, a great grandson Jon Bass, a sister Mea Rogers and numerous relatives. Funeral Tuesday at St John Episcopal Church with interment in Mount Moriah.
