Ambush Slayer of Parents Sentenced to Life
Eugene Salzman, 24, of Hayward Wisconsin, was sentenced to life imprisonment after pleading guilty to first degree murder in the ambush slaying of his mother and father outside their rural home on March 10. Salzman spoke briefly to judge Clarence Rinehard saying he began drinking and acted after family tensions, wearing dungarees a grey jacket and Army boots.

Plane Ditches in Pacific Killing Four Passengers
Four of 23 aboard a Pan-American Stratocruiser died when it crash landed burned and sank in the Pacific off the Oregon coast. Nineteen survivors were rescued by the U S Navy transport Bayfield after arriving about 40 minutes later. The dead included two crew members and two passengers. Ex-Butte resident, oldest Spanish American War vet, dies
Seattle reports Thomas Jefferson Bordeaux 99 former Butte resident and First Montana Volunteer Infantry sergeant died Friday. He later served two years as Silver Bow County constable and lived in Roseburg Oregon. Judge Lynch recalled his service in the 1898 Philippine campaign.
