They did not break the record held by Italians Ferrarin and Del Prete due to fuel shortage. The welcome in Bahia was hearty as Latin America awaited their Rio de Janeiro leg.

Europa Fire Damages New German Liner in Hamburg

Fire at Hamburg damaged the 40,000 ton Europa, a planned flagship of the North German Lloyd trans Atlantic service. Inculpatory diaries were blamed by investigators yet no definite crew fatalities or survivors had been identified. Lydia Gudmunsen an X ray operator at Murray hospital was elected president of the Rotana club at the annual meeting at Gamer's last night succeeding Winnifred Hooper. Officers include Edna and plans for the April 9 dinner dance at the Silver Bow club were announced. The new officers will be installed then.

In Carpenters union hall last night the Independent school party nominated Ella Crowley Rowland and Dr. W A Wells for three year terms and J E McNally for two years. H A Tyrand chaired the mass meeting which adopted a platform advocating union labor trained teachers and a ten month term while opposing school cafeteria competition with local merchants.

Missing Airplane Sparks Multi-Force Search Across Atlantic Coast

Boats planes and search parties combed Jersey forests and the coast from Norfolk to New York for four men missing after departing Virginia in a Sikorsky amphibian. The craft chartered in Miami by T Raymond Finucane carried pilots Harry Smith and Robert Boyd among its crew. Foch Laid To Rest In National Funeral Mass

Marshal Foch was buried today beside Napoleons tomb at Notre Dame. More than a million watched as his coffin traveled on a gun carriage to the Invalides chapel in Paris. Church and state united for the ceremony with ten nations paying honors to the Allied commander of ten million warriors.

Bevins Plans Hop from Amarillo to New York

O Kun Bevins, forced down today at Willard New Mexico during a non-stop Los Angeles to New York solo flight, arrived in Amarillo in his Lockheed Vega monoplane. He will depart Wednesday from Amarillo for a direct flight to New York. he said weather caused the forced landing after misjudging a cloud bank.

Corpse Found in River Identified Billings Grocer

Edward Kortzeborn a 71 year old Billings grocer was found dead in the Yellowstone River with his feet bound by clothes line wire. Autopsy showed a fractured skull and investigators say he was murdered before being thrown into the icy waters. An inquest is scheduled for tomorrow.

Nationalists Lose Ground in Chang Tsung-Chang Fight

In Chefoo Shantung on March 27, reports say nationalist forces suffered a severe setback west of the city at the hands of Marshal Chang Tsung-Chang. An American naval guard was requested for the cable office as retreating troops ferried eastward to avoid further engagements. Street scenes showed wounded and soldiers fleeing, signaling the defeat two days into the hostilities.
