Navy to train 40000 for war duty as auxiliaries
The Navy plans to train 5000 officers and 35000 Merchant Marine personnel for naval reserve duty on auxiliary vessels. Training would start this summer if Congress approves the appropriation. Capt. W. O. Spears says the move creates a pool of qualified naval reserve personnel from merchant ships.
