The North German Lloyd liner Europa, cleared Cherbourg in four days and 17 hours, setting a new Atlantic crossing record of 4 days 17 hours 6 minutes and beating her sister ship Bremen by 18 minutes. Passengers cheered as tugboats escorted the grand liner into New York harbor under foggy skies. Commodore Nicolaus Johnsen commanded the voyage.

Two men arrested in highway robbery after cane assault at store

Hart Calpin and H McCarthy were identified as the assailants who used the victim’s cane to beat him unconscious before robbing the store. They were arrested and booked at the city jail on a highway robbery charge after complaint by Charles Kramer of 221 South Arizona Street.

Butte High School appoints Scott W Fries principal

The Butte school district trustees unanimously elected Scott W Fries, longtime assistant principal at Butte High, as principal effective August 1 1930 with a salary of 4400. He succeeds J G Ragsdale who was elected city superintendent. Fries will select his own assistant and report to the board on routine matters.

Services to be held today for late George Bourquin

The funeral for George Bourquin former district judge and county attorney who died after a three week illness will be held today. The cortege leaves 223 North Excelsior Street for Immaculate Conception Church where a solemn requiem high mass is set for 9 30 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Cross cemetery.
