Butte Family of 7 Left Homeless In Twin City Fires
Firefighters battled two fires in Butte as a six room house at Gagnon and Pennsylvania and a two story dwelling on South Montana burned. The Schadler family of nine, including five children aged 18 months to six years, escaped with help from neighbors while police managed traffic during the Tuesday morning blaze that also involved the Timothy J Byrne residence on the North Side. Fire Chief Jack McCarthy led the operation from 10 37 to 11 15 with off duty crews summoned.

Fire kills boy as family suffers burns near Hamilton
A 5-year-old Ross Buhler died and his sister Nona Mae 6 was seriously burned when a log and frame house along the Bitterroot River 10 miles south of Hamilton burned Tuesday. Parents Ellis 35 and Leah 27 were treated and released. 2-year-old Christian was also hospitalized briefly. Fire blamed on an overheated wood stove. outside temperature about 10 degrees.

Wreck Near Wolf Point Kills North Dakota Man
A 29 year old Mormon minister Dean Hath Belnap of Newton North Carolina was killed when his Volkswagen struck an abandoned 1957 station wagon on U S Highway 2 twelve miles east of Wolf Point Montana. His wife Jean Barkley Belnap and two children were hospitalized with serious injuries and airlifted to Billings for care. The crash raised Montana 1964 traffic fatalities to 55.
