Butte Woman Dies After Wreck That Killed Husband

Mrs Lydia Pyykonen about 65 died at St James Hospital from injuries after a Wednesday night crash that killed her husband Oscar Pyykonen also about 65. They lived at 1126 Maryland Its origin a collision on U S Highway 10 east of Butte involving a large produce truck in Jefferson County. The death brings Montana highway toll to 30 for the year with no inquest likely.

Suez Canal Cleared For Oil Tankers Pending Authority Approval

The U N salvage fleet expects to clear the Suez Canal on Monday for oil tankers up to 10,000 tons and other ships after removing debris from the war. Egypt's Suez Canal Authority must assent for vessels of that size to resume traffic on the 103 mile waterway. The Edgar Bonnet will be towed to Port Fuad for repairs while the Abukir remains a barrier to full operation.

Cleavers Whips and Gangs Weapons Seized in Minnesota

Thirty three teenage youths from St. Cloud and area were detained in Little Falls as authorities seized a range of weapons from a motel. Deputies said the youths planned an intercity gang clash against a Little Falls gang that had attacked St. Cloud youths after a basketball game months earlier. Weapons included meat cleavers bullwhips weighted hose chains knives blackjacks and hammers. The arrest followed a tip from a father concerned over his missing son.

French Claim 240 Nationalists Slain in Algeria

French authorities report 240 nationalist rebels killed in the 48 hours ending noon Sunday near Algiers. Separate reports say five French soldiers died in a rebel ambush near Affreville, about 85 miles southwest of Algiers.

Keith Bekeman a 29 year old Livingston service station owner walked and ran 56 miles from Livingston to Gardiner on Highway 89 in 14 hours and one minute to win several bets. He started at 4 20 a m and finished at 6 10 p m aided by a pilot car and wearing many socks and canvas shoes.

Towns Isolated Trains Stranded by Worst Spring Storm

A severe spring blizzard stranded motorists and halted trains across five Western states, leaving as many as 2,000 motorists isolated and causing power outages in Garden City Kansas. Fires Destroy Garage and Damages in Butte Blaze

Two fires within a half hour Sunday caused major damage in Butte. A West Park garage owned by Frank Martin burned, spreading to the Martin residence and a nearby brick building roof. An East Broadway apartment house at 3344 E Broadway suffered severe fire and smoke damage to Bauer family rooms. No injuries.
