In London sources describe a two way struggle to arm the Spanish factions. Italy and Germany rush munitions to the insurgents while Soviet Russia and France aid the government. Franco gains air and artillery advantage with a large foreign volunteer force.
Insurgent headquarters report 35,000 loyalists are being driven into a large trap along the Ebro north of Saragossa after heavy fighting across a 180 mile front. Loyalists retreat east toward Catalonia as insurgents tighten the net and capture Tardienta lowering the threat to Franco’s positions near Huesca and the Mediterranean.
In Congress broad support exists for two wartime measures. The Ludlow resolution would require a referendum before any war declaration. A separate bill H B 9604 would, through military affairs committee approval, empower swift press action and potentially suspend constitutional norms at the start of war.
Snowdrifts blocked seven roads in Silver Bow county as crews under County Surveyor Jack Healy used six plowmen to clear the drifted routes. About 98 miles of roads were cleared yesterday while warnings of frost boils and more wintry weather followed.

Walter Rynerson died after a brief illness in his Phoenix block apartment. He had served as legal representative for Etna insurance interests in Montana since 1918 and was active in Kiwanis, the Montana Bar, and the Butte bar associations. Seventy students of Americanization completed weeks of training at the American Legion Americanization school under Grace Anstice. Mrs. Mary Pierce aged 86 long time Powell county resident and Virginia City pioneer passed away after recent illness. Born in Schuyler Nebraska she came to Virginia City in 1863 by covered wagon and later settled on the Peter Pierce ranch on Dempsey creek. She lived in the county 64 years and was married to Peter Pierce who worked in mining.
