A final rush of speeches and a push to committee restrict revisions stand in the way of Senate approval of the Hawley Smoot tariff bill. The measure aims to raise protections for most farm products and to revise industrial rates, after seven months of debate.

George Bourquin former county attorney of Silver Bow and district judge died after a brain hemorrhage suffered February 28 while playing handball at the Y M C A. He battled illness then relapsed and passed at 7 30 this morning with family at his bedside. His father federal judge George M Bourquin was summoned from Seattle and arrived to learn surgeons had tried to save him. Funeral plans are pending. Bourquin was a noted Montana figure and war veteran.
Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald returns from Chequers to salvage a tri party naval agreement among the United States Britain and Japan. He plans initial steps tomorrow to press tentative US Japan arrangements and push toward a limited five power pact within two weeks if Tokyo signals favorable.
Four men were killed in a running gun battle with detectives in East Buffalo New York. One victim was the suspected killer of Patrolman Carl Wunderlich last month. A fifth man, known to police, escaped after a capture and was wounded. Walter Krajewski 21 was named as a suspect in the February 6 case.
A Bayside two story house fire claimed the lives of six from one family and a boarder while they slept. Four children were among the dead. Five of the seven bodies were recovered from the ruins in the early morning blaze.

Mrs. Merritt W. Penwell aged 81 a Gallatin valley pioneer who came to Montana in 1867 as a bride died at her farm home Nelson 12 miles northwest of Bozeman She was born August 26 1848 at Shelbyville IL and married April 25 1867 to Merritt Penwell The couple journeyed from St Louis up the Missouri river to Fort Benton and then by covered wagon to their ranch Interment will be at Sunset Hills beside her husband who died January 4 1926
