In Helena Bozeman Rosary defeated Lewistown St. Leo’s 69 64 as Mike Durbin 24 Lewistown and Rosary’s Pete Keinan 44 traded baskets in the opener. Rosary led early and held on for the win.
Two Baker area ranch workers were killed when their loaded farm truck struck a hole in a road about 40 miles west of Baker. Killed were Murris W. Rost 22 and Herbert Abenworth 53. The crash occurred late Wednesday night but was found Thursday after rising creek water washed out soil around a culvert creating a 15 foot wide hole.

Dan K. Mizner a 51 year old Bozeman insurance executive was named executive director of the Montana League of Cities and Towns. The appointment was announced by League President Oscar L. Anderson mayor of Sidney. Mizner will serve part time until July 1 then move to Helena for full time work. He has 10 years as Deer Lodge city alderman and six years as Powell County commissioner and 12 years in insurance.
Mike Micone is assured a place on the April 7 city general election ballot as an independent candidate for mayor of Butte after 269 signatures were authenticated, surpassing the 236 required. The signatures were counted by County Clerk William T. Duckham and transferred to City Clerk Carlos J. Sullivan. Formal filing will follow, with the Democratic primary set to pick Micone’s opponent from James E. Bertoglio Leo L. Jacobsen and Mayor Thomas F. Powers.
Rosary defeated St. Leo's 69 to 64 and Terry beat Whitehall 77 to 60. Hingham routed Sheridan 64 to 61 and Park City edged Outlook 69 to 61. Today’s pairings include St. Leo's vs Whitehall at 2 PM Sheridan vs Outlook at 3 30 PM Rosary vs Terry at 7 30 PM and Hingham vs Park City at 9 PM.
Norman Rutledge alias Sonny Miller 22 Tom Brebrick 22 and Leon Gulbro 19 were charged Thursday with illegal possession of marijuana. They were arrested Wednesday at 917 S Arizona by Butte police officers with a search warrant. Bail set at 2500 bonds. hearings scheduled. A fourth man 22 released for lack of evidence.
Prime Minister John Gorton denied any impropriety amid a scandal involving actress Liza Minelli and a 19 year old journalist. The House refused to investigate. Gorton and his wife planned a Washington visit with President Nixon on April 12.
Joseph T. Gub Shea, longtime Butte Democrat and Silver Bow County party chair, named by the Montana Liquor Control Board to replace Crowell Shelton as state liquor administrator. Shelton, 66, was bumped after serving since April 1, 1963, under Gov. Babcock, with Anderson appointing Shea, a 50 year old veteran and campaign supporter.
