Acting Secretary of State Dean Acheson told the House Foreign Affairs Committee that U S aid to Greece and Turkey would not lead to war with Russia though he warned that Communism could engulf those nations and much of Europe and Asia if the United States delays. He backed Truman's Greco Turkish aid plan, said UN action would be slow and that the main burden would fall on the United States, and cautioned against assuming this policy applies to other nations.
