Important Burma Road Junction Captured

Chinese troops under Maj. Gen. Danilo I. Sultan have captured Hsipaw and an important Burma road junction 45 miles west of Lashio. Soviet Troops Capture Baltic Port Kolberg After Siege

Soviet assault troops seized the shell torn Baltic port of Kolberg ending a 13 day siege and pushing toward Danzig and Gdynia as Berlin reported battles along the eastern front. Soviet forces also gained river positions in Czechoslovakia and expanded pressure near Vienna, while refugees fled coastal towns in Danzig bay area.

Butte Soldier Wounded in Italy Action

Pfc. Denny Lodders, a promising Butte skier and Butte High School graduate, was seriously wounded February 26 in Italy as a ski troop. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lodders of 1912 Wilson Avenue, received a War Department telegram Sunday night confirming chest wounds from shell fragments.

1,200-Foot Ludendorff bridge collapse at Remagen

The central 1,200 foot Ludendorff bridge at Remagen collapsed on Saturday sending many Army engineers into the Rhine. Officials later said the gap can be repaired and the bridge soon will be in operation again. The failure stemmed from a weakened girder damaged by a German demolition charge before American seizure on March 7.
