Irish Have Their Day At Friendly Sons Banquet In Butte

About 300 guests gathered at the Finlen Hotel Silver Bow Ballroom for the annual Friendly Sons of St Patrick banquet. Kevin Shannon presided as toast master and Dale Crowley spoke on Butte heritage. The event celebrated St Patrick with music wit and Irish hospitality while noting emigration and long-standing Gael links.

Absentee Ballot Procedure for City Primary

City Clerk Neal E. Shea announced that absentee ballots will be counted next Monday in the city primary. Hall closures over the weekend limit in person handling. only mailed ballots delivered Monday morning will be relayed to precincts. Voters at home or in hospitals must reach Shea by 5 p.m. Friday. 159 absentee applications filed, 125 returns received.

Selma Montgomery Pilgrimage Cleared by Court

U S District Judge Frank M Johnson Jr ruled they may march from Selma to Montgomery. Civil rights leaders won the right to a five day, three mile pilgrimage beginning Friday, with state troopers and local authorities barred from interfering. The decision targeted Gov Wallace Col Albert and Sheriff Clark as enforcees of the order.

Johnson Submits Voting Rights Bill to Congress

Omaha Woman Drowns When Auto Goes Into River Near Drummond

A 68 year old Omaha woman, Mrs. Robert McBride, drowned after her car slid off U S Highway 10 into the Clark Fork River near Drummond Montana. Her husband survived and was treated for shock at a Missoula hospital. Coroner Woodrow Wilson said the car struck a rock and plunged down a 25 foot bank into icy water. The top of the car was under slush. This marked Montana's 39th traffic fatality of the year and Granite County's first in 1966.
