Search for Missing Plane Near Guam Expands
An Air Force officer coordinating the search for a missing 107 passenger plane near Guam said two sighting reports and a flare clue were checked with negative results. Navy mine sweeper USS Illusive and photo-recon planes joined a third day of operations as 93 Viet Nam bound GIs were aboard. Twenty six planes took off from Guam to extend the area search while radar aircraft rested after overnight effort.

Philipsburg Sgt. James C. Sorensen 44 is listed aboard the Flying Tiger Constellation that disappeared in the Western Pacific with 107 aboard. Sorensen, a 1939 enlistee nearing retirement, was born June 6 1917 in American Falls Idaho and hailed from Philipsburg. His wife and four children live in Spanaway Washington, with extended relatives in Missoula Florida and Pocatello.

Chinook Youth 17 Dies in Route 2 Crash
Kenneth H. Friede a 17 year old senior at Chinook High died when his 1956 sedan crashed into a bridge abutment on U S 2 east of Chinook. Police say he apparently fell asleep at the wheel and crossed into the wrong lane. Friede lived south of Zurich with his parents Otto and Mrs Friede. The crash area has seen prior fatalities and Friede’s death brings 1962 highway toll to 33 versus 45 a year earlier.

Anaconda Co will begin construction of a temporary office building for its multi million dollar copper ore concentrator project in Butte this week. Palmer Steel Structure Co of Great Falls won the contract to erect a one story prefabricated steel office building. The structure will form a T shaped complex with two units.
