Coroner Arthur A. Longfellow says Herbert Frederick Harding, 22, was accidentally shot to death Wednesday afternoon by a rifle held by his 26-year-old brother Lynn Harding. The accident happened in the Gold Coin area about 14 miles west of Anaconda at 5 p.m. The two brothers hunted mountain lion in rugged snowbound terrain near the Gold Coin Mine settlement. Lynn led and, after a coyote burst from a bush, fired at movement in the brush, striking Herbert in the back as the bullet passed through his body. Lynn sought help through heavy snowdrifts to the highway about two miles away.
