English War Bride First to Arrive in Butte Finds Busy Life
Mrs. Jack Gnelling, English war bride from London, and her husband Lt. Jack Gneiting of the Army Air Forces settled at 533 South Idaho. Married in London in May 1945, she arrived in America on Washington’s Birthday, the first war bride to reach Butte from Europe. She praised Butte’s friendliness and said time away from home has not brought homesickness. Lt. Gnelling, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Husted, formerly of Butte and now in Oregon, served as navigator with the Eighth Air Force, flying 14 missions over Germany.
