300 Superfortresses dropped 2,500 tons of incendiaries on Kobe’s docks and factories in a five square mile target, starting about 4 a.m. The Mitsubishi and Kawasake locomative plants were hit as fires raged across the city of nearly 1,000,000. Capt. John Miller piloted the first plane over Kobe as Brig. Gen. Saunders is honored for recovery.

Dillon Officer Is Missing in Action in France
Lt. LaRue Cantrell of Dillon, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Cantrell, has been reported missing in action in France since March 3 while serving with the Seventh Army infantry in Alsace Lorraine. His wife Dorothy and seven month old son live in Washington DC. Cantrell, promoted six weeks ago, later received the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman badge. A Beaverhead County High School graduate, he attended Montana State College for three years and ROTC training, and he graduated from officer candidate school at Fort Benning in June with the rank of second lieutenant before heading overseas three months ago.
