President Johnson pleaded with Congress to enact without delay a federal voting rights bill. He warned against delay or compromise and urged opening polling places to all. He cited Selma protests and demanded federal registrars to ensure enforcement nationwide.
Judge John McClellman denied a motion to reopen the case and left the door open for Montana Supreme Court action. Jasper Dawson’s attorney, Joseph Monaghan, appealed while city officials and aldermen watched. The March 5 injunction ruling remains in effect as arguments focused on legal questions rather than witnesses.

It was the sixth major strike in the North Viet Nam campaign begun Feb 7, aimed at cutting Viet Cong supplies via the Ho Chi Minh trail. Officials report heavy damage and possible additional targets in the area as ground fire from North Vietnamese forces was reported.
Trustees of School District No. 1 in Butte voted to place a seven mill levy before voters on April 3, aiming to raise about 220 924. The plan includes distributing levy details to taxpayers and clarifying how recent state actions affect school financing.
