Helena mother says her son George Malben 23 aboard the trimaran Extended AdoLescence has been sighted by a Coast Guard cutter en route to Honolulu. The boat, overdue since Feb 27, was found 165 miles southwest of Honolulu with its mast lost and a jury rig.

United States Panama Move Toward Restored Diplomatic Ties

An OAS committee says the United States and Panama agreed to resume relations and begin canal talks but a US source says no meeting of minds yet. The plan calls for designation of negotiators to reach a fair agreement and for relations to be restored as soon as possible after Panama broke ties on January 10 following canal zone rioting.

Maude Walker 86 Dies in Butte After Death of Husband

Maude Walker age 86 widow of early Butte lawyer Thomas J. Walker died Sunday in a local hospital. She lived at 58 West Quartz Street. Her husband served on the United States Customs Court in New York City until his death in 1945 after Roosevelt appointed him in 1940.

Best Ever Tournament Behavior Noted In State Big 30

The 1964 state Big 30 basketball tournament in Butte was praised as the quietest in history. Sheriff Bill Dalling said crowds dispersed by 2 a.m. with little trouble, though 44 people were jailed over three days, including juveniles for beer possession and a 39 year old bartender for liquor sales to minors. Six Helena youths were later arrested for stealing 20 high school rings from a Helena jewelry store.

Johnson says Lodge to stay in Saigon in bid to bolster Vietnam aid

President Johnson affirmed Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge will remain in South Vietnam to press U S support against Communist influence. He dismissed rumors of a Kennedy vice presidential push and said Lodge has shown no plan to leave. Johnson also defended staying in Vietnam to stem domino effect and outlined poverty focus in upcoming congressional plan.
