Three Die As Missouri Tornado Toll Rises

Tornadoes across seven states killed at least 14 people and wrecked hundreds of homes. Belleville Illinois reported the heaviest loss with seven dead, while Missouri towns near Bakerville and Wardell suffered multiple fatalities and widespread destruction. An Alabama twister killed a Demopolis woman and a Guntersville resident was electrocuted by a downed wire.

Short Named Y President for 19th Year

George N. Short, prominent Butte businessman, was re elected president of the Y M C A for the 19th consecutive year at the annual meeting of the board of directors. Short has led the community institution since 1920, succeeding J. R. Wharton, who oversaw the opening in 1919. Paul Huddoff was re elected vice president, a role he has held since 1924, with George A. Hill also named to a continued post.

Scandinavian Lodge to Initiate 1000th Member in Butte

Butte lodge No. 1 of the Scandinavian Fraternity will initiate its 1,000th member in a joint ceremony with lodge No. 11 at Scandia hall.
