Two armed men forced entry into four East St Louis homes, binding and gagging residents and stealing jewelry, silverware, and cash. A 16 year old girl and three women were assaulted. attackers fled after a pistol misfire. Police said they had no arrests.
In Fort Myers Henry Ford rejects the idea of a low mood as real and calls dishonesty the cause. He argues hard times teach honesty and that the current period is good, though people fail to realize it. He discusses prohibition politics government and education in the Florida interview.
Butte plans a first annual Spring Market March 19 to 23 with street parades, decorated autos, and windows in the business district. The Butte Mines band performs March 19 at 7:30 PM for two hours. Fred Martin leads the parade. Ed Marans chairs the festival committee. car positions are assigned by arrival date. The Columbia Gardens auto show opens March 20 adding to the displays.

Jesse Exum, 33, of Atlanta, a commercial flyer, fell 1500 feet to his death at a Tarboro area flying field when his parachute split during an exhibition jump.
The forecast calls for generally fair conditions in eastern Montana with unsettled weather in the western portion on Sunday and Monday. Warmer readings are expected in the northeast Sunday.

President Hoover plans a 10 day Caribbean voyage aboard the battleship Arizona beginning from Norfolk Virginia. The trip will include Porto Rico and the Virgin Islands with stops for rest and work as he consults with Governor Theodore Roosevelt Jr. in Porto Rico and Governor M Pearson in the Virgin Islands. Departure date to be announced. the cruise may be deferred if he joins.
Wise River deer herds are increasing while the coyote population declines, said Hugh Galloway the district’s champion trapper. He trapped 75 coyotes this winter and 45 since Christmas with hides selling around $10 each, noting several areas where over 100 deer have fallen to coyotes and estimating about 2,000 deer in the region.
In Joliet Illinois 1100 inmates rioted at the State penitentiary injuring three guards and four convicts with one inmate killed. Guards on the wall fired on rioters while sentries discouraged further violence as Warden Henry C Hill and local authorities contained the scene.

Charlotte Nixon-Nirdlinger who killed her husband last Wednesday night remains unusually calm in jail. The warden notes she avoids activity, cares for manicured nails, and has not asked to see her children. The magistrate denied immediate execution and said she will face the court of assizes next August. attorneys may apply for continuation.
Miles City, Montana, defeated Whitefish 35 to 26 to win the 20th annual interscholastic basketball title. The unbeaten Cowboys of Miles City, Big 14 champions, led 26 to 17 after three quarters and prevailed on strong defense and free throws. Butte, Billings, Livingston, Twin Bridges and Forsyth also earned top finish placements as the tourney concluded.
Lima March 14 The new junta led by David Samanez Ocampo forms a nine member committee to draft a constitutional electoral law. The plan includes an autonomous electoral body, minority representation, and a secret compulsory vote. Proposals are due within 20 days.
