Washington considers using coupons to boost purchases of freshly produced butter and cheese and allow redeeming for government surplus at lower prices. Plan aims to reduce large stockpiles by April 1 as dairy support program shifts, with several distribution methods under review and talks of blending prices.
In Butte residents are urged to contribute to the Red Cross drive as only 4513.95 has been collected toward a 20395 county goal. Drive chairman Emmett Buckley stresses the need to reach early targets to support local national and international Red Cross efforts including the blood donor program.
A 79 year old Great Falls woman, Mrs Alda May Hansen, died at 6 p m Saturday from injuries from a two truck head on collision nine miles east of Lewistown She was a passenger in a one and one half ton truck driven by her son Marion Hansen The other truck was driven by Stanley Seavers of Lewistown He was uninjured Elsa Hansen 49, wife of Marion Hansen, also sustained injuries but was expected to recover
At the 10th Inter-American Conference in Caracas 17 to 1 with Mexico and Argentina abstaining the American republics approved the Declaration of Caracas calling for collective action against Communist influence in the Western Hemisphere. Secretary of State Dulles framed the move as a warning to alien despots and a shield against outside threats.
Tehran police said Hossein Fatemi, former foreign minister and Mossadegh era firebrand, was captured in a Tehran suburb after a period in hiding and later stabbed by a bystander while being moved to a police prison. He suffered two stab wounds and was hospitalized in serious but not dangerous condition.
Barbara Hutton and Porfirio Rubirosa announced they will separate after a marriage of less than three months. The couple issued the statement through attorney R. D. Maxwell Jr saying they mutually decided it was wisest to part.
Central Airlines announced a new world record for a DC3, averaging 306.66 mph on a 46 mile Enid to Ponca City flight. The nine minute night run used a 130 mph jetstream at 13 000 feet, surpassing the previous 265 mph DC3 record.

Two top House Republicans warned that Democratic efforts to add a 100 increase in individual income tax exemptions threaten Eisenhower's tax revision bill. Speaker Martin predicted a veto if exemptions rise. Rep. Reed called the move politically motivated and potentially fatal to tax relief this year. Edith Nourse Rogers signaled support for sending the bill back to committee to raise exemptions.
A London bound BOAC Constellation from Australia somersaulted on landing in Singapore and burned killing 33 of 40 aboard. Survivors were seven crew members. Victims included Americans Grant Olson and Michael Shathin and Canadian Alexander Wood. Flight crew and officials reported among the dead, with Australian and British passengers noted.

A jury of seven men and five women sentenced John Wible to death for first degree murder in the Turnpike phantom killer case. The 24 year old farm youth was found guilty of killing Harry Pitts and wounding a motorist during a spree along the 327 mile toll road. The verdict came after 3 hours and 43 minutes of deliberation.
Washington report details Senator McCarthy and Army Secretary Stevens trading volleys over Pvt G David Schine. McCarthy demanded public denial of requests for special treatment while releasing a Dec 22 letter suggesting associates thought Schine would be drafted only because of the subcommittee link. Stevens called the charge a smokescreen and rejected blackmail allegations as both sides accuse the other of pressuring for favorable handling.
A March storm sweeping the Great Plains into the Midwest left nine dead and caused heavy damage to communications and power lines. Iowa suffered massive telephone outages with 150 towns cut off and 5 000 rural lines out of service. Utilities rushed 1 500 repair crews as sleet felled poles and caused thousands of wire breaks across South Dakota and surrounding states.

The remarks follow Stevenson's Miami accusation of McCarthyism and call for calm, orderly action to back the administration’s anti communism drive.

A Butte grocery store employee saw a man with a face covering inside Metals Bank near Park Street just before 9 p.m. The would be robber fled as the depositor shouted for help, driving away with envelopes of money while police and witnesses gave conflicting descriptions of a gray haired man about 5 to 5 8 feet tall wearing a light coat or jacket.
Nicholas Martin, 54, died after paying his 1953 income tax in the Syracuse IRS office. The coroner said he apparently suffered a heart attack and collapsed at the cashiers cage.
Sen. McCarthy told Manitowoc business leaders he will remain rough in fighting Communists and traitors, defending his methods as necessary to expose military truth. He referenced a Senate ally’s warning and noted President Eisenhower supported Flinders’ critique without naming others.
Anaconda policeman diver Oren Eccleston recovered the body of George Robinson Jr. 31 Billings from the Yellowstone River about five miles west of Columbus. The boat overturned in heavy waves and Robinson perished. A Billings fisherman rescued the three companions.
