Thirteen men have survived a torpedo boat disaster after the Tomozuru capsized in heavy seas near Sasebo Japan. At dawn rescuers pulled ten men from the wreck as seventeen bodies were recovered and survivors described pleading for aid while workers cut through the hull. The ship’s skipper Lieut Commander Okuichi Iwase was on the bridge when it capsized.
New York reports Clarence Chamberlain, famed airman, arguing that army pilots in the mail service suffered mail flight deaths at a rate similar to civilian lines in February. In Washington, Brig. Gen. William Mitchell accuses mail contractors of malicious propaganda seeking to undermine the administration and calls for probes into foreign connections with aircraft equipment vendors.
A speaker recalls youthful confidence and laments a loss of creative power. He cites Mr. Mark Sullivan and argues only Rome or Moscow can supply new insights, suggesting Western political methods are exhausted and must learn from abroad.
More than 150 application forms for first citizenship papers have been issued in Butte in the last four weeks, per Harold Allen and Joe Harrington. All forms are exhausted, but new supplies have been ordered. Applications, once properly filled, are filed at the Spokane office, department of immigration.

Rev Charles A Rexroad 52 a former Methodist pastor from Butte died recently at his Sacramento home. A decorated World War I hero he was one of the citys first enlistees and the first Butte man to serve as chaplain. Born in Missouri in 1882. Continued on Page 3 Col 2.
John Erskine, novelist and critic, reviews Dickens The Story of Our Lord in manuscript form. He expected Dickens to use social reform and comic insight, but notes Dickens may choose a different tone to make biblical material accessible to children.

The recovery administration told the copper industry its proposed code was not acceptable and sent executives a substitute drafted by the NRA. Deputy Administrator H O King, after a two day hearing on the Copper Association proposal, said he was instructed by Hugh S Johnson to urge the industry to take more definite action. Representative Isabella Greenway of Arizona, shown as interested, was noted in the report.
At Salt Lake City on March 13 the western governors conference split over how to manage the public domain. A resolutions committee opposed passage of the Taylor bill, proposing state control via legislatures, and the executive session adopted a substitute resolution. Other resolutions on silver sugar federal highway aid and mining assistance drew no opposition.
Trustees of school district No. 1 unanimously approve a contract with J. Van Teylingen of Great Falls for architect services on Butte’s proposed new high school. Miles J. Cavanaugh and Margaret Leary to sign. J. G. Ragsdale resigns as city superintendent, effective Aug. 1. Walter Arnold's $1000 payment for drawings to be covered by architect Van Teylingen, not the district. Board circled meeting for March 19 to discuss site selection ahead of April 7 citizen vote.
In a tale reported by L. E. Flint of Livingston a determined youth in an Illinois licensed car raced a Spokane to Livingston train, racing close beside it across mountain passes and snow routes to reach his beloved on a depot platform where they embraced after her arrival.
Washington March 13 John 8 Cohen newspaper owner former senator and political figure arrived in the capital to decide if he would accept the position as treasurer of the Democratic national committee to replace Frank C Walker who resigned for a government job If he accepts Cohen would be tasked with raising funds for upcoming congressional campaigns The party funds are described as not tightly stuffed and the national chairmanship of James A Farley is drawn into the shifting picture
A fair spell covers Montana with warmer temperatures expected east of the divide on Wednesday and Thursday. The outlook calls for pleasant conditions across the state, with temperatures rising in eastern regions.
Helena March 13 The meeting focused on enforcing the state liquor control act and setting a deadline for automobile license plates. Governor Cooney urged fair trials of the liquor system and said bootleggers hide his operations, while repeal advocates claimed prohibition would reduce crime.
Detroit reports Henry Ford reinstates a five dollar daily minimum wage across Ford departments effective today. About 47 000 of 70 000 Ford workers nationwide benefit with an estimated six million dollar rise in annual payroll. The blanket increase follows a prior seven dollar rate in December 1929 and recent wage curtailments.
Washington March 13 The Roosevelt administration faces a severe House test on veterans legislation as Democratic leaders propose a special rule to move amendments to the independent office supply bill into conference with the Senate without debate If adopted the House may vote on the Senate proposals granting 354 million dollars in veterans benefits and pay restoration The administration also pushes credit aid to industry as conservatives vow to restrict government involvement.
The war department reported a Soviet airplane forced landed near Hanka lakes in eastern Manchuria. Occupants arrested. Japan views it as a territorial violation despite Moscow pledges. Nippon Dempo said bandits captured the flyers and Japanese troops rescued and held them.
