Hoffa Sentenced to Eight Years for Jury Tampering
James R. Hoffa, president of the Teamsters Union, received an eight year prison term and a $10,000 fine after conviction for jury tampering in Nashville. Three co defendants drew three year terms. lawyer Jacques Schiffer got 60 days and $1,000 for contempt. Hoffa faces another federal trial in Chicago starting April 27 on pension fund charges. The case stemmed from a seven week trial alleging efforts to fix a federal jury. All were freed on bail pending appeals.

Man Released In Wounding Of Companion
Manuel Sanchez 37 of 125 Jay Street and Maestas 34 of 420 East Granite were at Maestas home when Sanchez allegedly showed a newly purchased pistol. A 22 caliber bullet struck Maestas in the upper thigh Wednesday night. The shooting was called accidental and both men reported the incident. Maestas received treatment at Silver Bow General Hospital in good condition.

House Bill Would Give Federal Pay Raise Defeated
Washington UPI reports the House defeated a 545 million federal pay raise bill on a recorded roll call 182 to 222. It would have boosted 1.7 million civil servants postal workers and other federal workers pay by 3 to 22 percent and included 10 000 annual raises for congressmen judges and cabinet members. Eight year old Linda M. Trainor of Milltown died after dashing into U S Highway 10 near Missoula while crossing to a school area. Driver Mrs Cleda Strehlow of New England N C said a bus driver saw the girl run in front of the car. she was thrown about 12 feet. The death marks Montana's 49th traffic fatality this year.
