The Hecla mine located 16 miles west of Melrose has been sold to the Foundation Company of Utah. The announced sale price is reported near half a million dollars. Discovered in 1873 by Billy Spurr, Hecla has produced nearly $20 million in value since its opening, with Montana company plans to actively develop it.

French foreign minister Aristide Briand showed gloom over failing to secure a security pact at the naval conference. Arthur Lofredo, the husband of Anna, is said to have shot the first trio following a quarrel. A second pair were found dead two blocks away, apparently shot in a money dispute over alien smuggling. Natali Cardiello was found wounded and said two bandits shot him. Police withheld the source of their information on the smuggling ring.
