East German nurse says the three American officers survived the crash near Gardelegen East Germany after an RB66B reconnaissance jet was shot down by Soviet fighters on a routine mission. The Soviet note warned NATO planes carry nuclear weapons and vowed to shoot down intruders.

Three Hundred Butte Workers Picket Parsons Co Line

Three hundred Ralph M. Parsons Co. employees halted work briefly at the Butte concentrator site to honor a three-man picket line. The action, led by International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ironworkers Local 495 from San Felipe, was directed at the Universal Delta Co. subcontractor. The picket line ended at 2 p.m. and did not involve Parsons or the plant’s main construction crew.

Judge Bottomly enters race for lieutenant governor

Dist. Judge R V Bottomly filed for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor in Helena. State Rep Truman Bradford filed to succeed Bottomly on the bench. Bottomly backs Dr Roland Renne for governor. Bradford paid 140 to file. Bottomly 20. Bradford served as Cascade County attorney, mayor of Great Falls and as a three term state representative.

Havre Department Store Damaged by Fire

Havre's Buttreys Department Store suffered damage from fire and smoke on a Wednesday. The blaze began in a downstairs coffee shop kitchen and spread into the ceiling between the basement and first floor. The three story brick building houses food clothing hardware and sporting goods.

Miner Shot in Leg Leaves Suspect in Custody

A 37 year old Butte miner Jose B Maestas was wounded in the right thigh at his home on 420 E Granite. Manuel Sanchez was held in the county jail for investigation. Sanchez allegedly had been drinking with Maestas's sister in law Mary Sanchez and wife present. An unfired bullet and a slug were found. a bullet may have passed through the leg. The wound was described as not too bad and x rays would confirm bone involvement.

Dances featuring the Kingsmen of Portland will highlight youth activities during the three day state basketball tournament in Butte. The Kingsmen known for Louie Louie will perform at the Butte YMCA activity corner during mixer dances 9 p m to 12 30 a m Thursday Friday and 9 to 1 Saturday. Followed by Road Runners dances with the Galaxies of Bozeman at American Legion Hall on Harrison Avenue Thursday Friday and Saturday nights.
