Montana seeks 12 month postpartum Medicaid funding

Advocates pressed legislators Thursday to fund 12 months of Medicaid coverage after birth, aiming to extend beyond the current 60 days. The plan would cost about 1.37 million in state funds and 3.13 million in federal dollars annually, with about 1,000 women covered if approved. A six month option was previously approved for those with substance use or mental health diagnoses, costing 455,150 state funds and 1.03 million federal.

Nevada firm claims top rare earth find near Bitterroot

U S Critical Materials Corp asserts its Sheep Creek holdings in Bitterroot National Forest host one of the nation's highest grade light rare earth projects. Located about 13 miles south of Painted Rocks State Park and 36 miles south of Darby near the Montana Idaho border, the site includes 223 claims spanning over 4500 acres. Key elements include neodymium and praseodymium, used in EVs and strong micro magnets.

Montana Board Revises School Accreditation Standards

The Montana Board of Public Education voted to adopt revisions to accreditation standards after a years long process sparked unprecedented public comment over student to staff ratios for counselors librarians and administrators. Board member Tim Tharp praised the lengthy effort and thanked residents and experts who weighed in while the board rejected the Office of Public Instruction recommendation to diminish ratios.

Montana bill eyes reform of state cabin site sales

State Auditor Troy Downing backs Senate Bill 49 to overhaul how Montana sells cabin sites on state lands. The measure, introduced by Sen.
