D. W. Myers of Dillon commends Maj. Bernard Fisher of Kuna Idaho for saving his son Maj. Dafford W. Myers in a daring Vietnam air rescue amid a Red threat. Myers plans to write Fisher’s family and notes Fisher’s courage and risk.
In KUNA Idaho Air Force Maj Bernard Fisher is praised by his wife as a quiet man who would not seek glory after landing under heavy fire to rescue Maj Dafford Myers who crash landed at Da Nang. Myers and Fisher have five children each and plan homecomings after cur rent tours.
Maj. Bernard Fisher of Kuna Idaho boldly flew into a raging battle at a tiny Communist landing strip and retrieved a downed wingman from Viet Cong hands with only 20 feet to spare. Fellow pilots call it the bravest thing they have seen as villagers and fellow airmen salute his daring rescue amid heavy fire. Fisher had earlier guided a fog bound supply flight to a besieged Special Forces camp, volunteers braving 100 foot clouds. He is a former Homestead Air Force Base pilot of the month and twice earned that award under pressure during combat.
North Viet Nam regulars overran a U S Special Forces camp near A Shan after a fierce two day battle. About 400 tribesmen and 12 to 13 advisers were casualties or evacuated, while five Americans and 41 tribesmen were wounded. Helicopters evacuated survivors as boats and air strikes faded. Premier Ky dismissed Lt Gen Nguyen Chanh Thi for insubordination, amid rumors of a coup and tight security at the military headquarters.

H Ashton Crosby former executive director of the Council for a Livable World met Governor Babcock in Helena en route to Washington. Crosby who resigned in January said the council backs Senator Metcalf and opposes Babcock if he runs. Crosby now works with the American Housing Council and is a Republican.
Police Chief James A. Clark announced street cleaning crews will work today, asking motorists to avoid parking on the west sides of Montana Arizona and Main streets between Mercury and Front. Cars parked there will be removed at owners expense.
Daniel Dreamer 30 of Crow Agency was struck and killed while lying on U.S. Highway 87 one mile east of Hardin around 8 p.m. by a westbound car driven by Hartford Stops 26. A second driver John Prevost of Lodge Grass reported Dreamer wore a dark overcoat. Survivors include two sons Mortimer of Bozeman and Don. The Montana traffic toll rose to 39 for 1966 through March 11, up from 37 in 1965.
