Gunmen terrorize Washington as hostage crisis unfolds
Gunmen seized parts of Washington with at least 13 wounded and several dozen hostage in a stretch that included the B n ai B rith and District Building. By 10 p m police estimated almost 100 held with 44 released. A Howard University radio reporter Maurice Williams was killed. City officials and police worked to secure sites as streets were closed and rumors spread.
