Bretine Murder Case Is Begun
Havre March 9 The second degree murder trial of Knute Bretine opened in district court with witnesses recounting the shooting of Claude Allen a tavern operator. Bartender Joe Van Alstine testified Bretine said I don t want to kill you Claude but I guess I have to. The gun fired twice as they moved to seal. The 24 year old Gilford farmer and Mrs Allen are expected to testify Wednesday. Bretine had been charged with murder and the complaint amended recently.

GREAT PASS March 3 The Fort Shaw area reports its seventh infantile paralysis victim this year. Charles Otis Marenff, 18, is in a local hospital, Rose frou Ashuelat west of Great Fitts. The youth is a Navy veteran who contracted poliomyelitis weeks ago but was not diagnosed until recently. The fifty county health officer said Tuesday Malcott is being treated for aftereffects of the disease.
