Seventeen Year Old Girl Confesses to Parental Slayings

SMINLNOE Mo March 7 A seventeen year old girl Betty Jane Kroeger admitted murdering her parents after a domestic argument last week. She said she shot her mother during a Tuesday night quarrel then killed her sleeping father in his Eminence store. Police report the father feared exposure of the first shooting. The bodies of Fred Kroeger and Minnie Kroeger were found Saturday night after a store robbery wave and the girl drove away with her father’s car before wrecking it on the return trip.

Bloomington reporting that Ross Lockridge Jr., author of Raintree County, died Saturday night in his garage from carbon monoxide poisoning. Coroner Dr. Robert B. Lynas Jr. of Monroe County ruled the death an self-inflicted act. The author’s body was found slumped over the wheel of his automobile in the garage by his wife.

Escape of 21 Felons From Georgia Work Camp

Twenty one convicts escaped from a county work camp near Atlanta Georgia on Sunday nine were recaptured within three hours as a manhunt spread across the area. The breakout occurred after a guard was distracted and the inmates climbed the fence using improvised tools. Officials reported the escape involved both Black and White inmates and stretched across rural and suburban areas between Clarkston and Stone Mountain as police tightened a cordon and recovered nine by early evening.

Cattlemen Warned Not to Ship After This Week

Three state area director A T Slephens of MeCTO United Packing workers warned farmers not to deliver livestock to unionized packinghouses after next weekend. He said 24 locals in Nebraska and Colorado would be exempt from a nationwide strike starting March 16 at 1 00 a m. Packinghouses with DPWa contracts would be affected and there would be little chance to finish processing animals at points on strike.

Dillon March 7 Sheriff Burl Stephens called off the hunt for Fred Clugy after divers searched 500 feet of slough near the Big Hole river between Butte and Hamilton. A week earlier Clugy’s hat was found in a sleigh and a riderless horse was seen downstream, with reports of a man entering a wagon on an island. Rescue crews from Deer Lodge County and volunteers, led by Gyin Festestan, scoured the area but found no trace of the missing rancher.

Don’t Drop Your Shovel Turns Fatal in a Street Altercation

Lawrence Fors of 203 North Main reported Sunday to headquarters that during cleaning his yard an unknown man began an argument. Fors laid down his shovel to confront the dispute. the assailant then struck him on the head with the tool. Fors died at St James Hospital after six stitches closed the wound. Police seek the unidentified attacker.

Burglar Releases Three in Family After Kidnaping

In Lexington a burglar kidnapped Mr and Mrs Lincoln Martin and their daughter Judith aged 12 from their home. He forced them to drive seven miles to Belmont then released them after brief exchanges of small amounts of money and directions, prompting police to issue a statewide alarm.

Mrs Clara Sieger Hurt in Car Crash

Helena March 7 Mrs Clara Sieger 19 of 571 South Rodney a present at St dol hospital and recovering from a possible fracture of the spine after an automobile accident on the Bull-Helena highway five miles south of Helena Sunday afternoon. Sieger was a passenger in a Kinsey car carrying her son in law and two daughters Winifred Montgomery and Bam Kinsey. the Kinsey car and a car driven by Walter Eckley collided. The Kinsey car lost a wheel crossed the road rolled over and finally settled on its side. Sieger was the only Kinsey passenger injured. Eckley and his daughter escaped injury.
