A heated campaign over consolidation in Butte accuses opponents of deceit and misrepresentation. Proponents warn of political self interest while stressing the risk to public funds, pensions, and debt obligations in the upcoming election.
Charles Brinton aged 18, son of O F Brinton, was killed instantly in a Peacok mine explosion near Harrison while his cousin Owen Coombs aged 12 suffered serious eye injuries. Coombs was rushed to Murray hospital in Butte for treatment and the blast cause remains undetermined. The incident occurred as the youths, who had fled to the mine for weekend visits, played with an acetylene tank behind a mine building. Charles Brinton, born April 25 1913 in Gold Roads Arizona, had moved to Butte with his parents three years ago. The sole witness was the injured Coombs. Continued on page 10 column 7.
Los Angeles officials indicate more arrests possible as Chief Investigator Blapney Matthews cools witnesses into Monday. Four young women are in custody for questioning regarding a syndicate that supplied companions to wealthy men for parties and weekend trips.
Vienna reports a severe series of earthquakes in South Serbia causing extensive damage in Mirovitz and surrounding areas. One death is confirmed as 150 houses and the railway station were leveled amid the tremors.

In the United States a Great Lakes blizzard snarled highways and snapped utility poles while cold fronts and rain spread into the South.
In Hillsboro Oregon on March 7 the trial of Miss Loucks and Nelson Bowles heard about a slipover sweater worn by Leone Bowles when she was stabbed in Miss Loucks’s apartment. Deputy Coroner Gideon Snook disputed testimony on whether the wound was covered by the sweater, a point defense used to suggest self-inflicted injury.
