Wreckage Found of Lost Western Air Express Plane

Wreckage of a Western Air Express tri motor transport disappeared twelve days ago in the San Bernardino mountains. Dudley Steele and observer Miss Juanita Burns located the plane in a canyon five miles northwest of Coxey's ranch, about 20 miles from Lake Arrowhead. Two inert bodies were seen in heavy brush and a burned fuselage lay in the ravine with a torn wing bearing the block letters WM AM EM.

Fine reception meets plan for boosting state

Leaders of the Democratic Party call on Governor J. E. Erickson during his Montana tour. The governor said a federal inspector was sent to Montana to investigate gasoline prices, and he would spend weeks examining the oil and gas situation. The visit to state institutions was routine, with stops at Finlen Hotel and trips to Galen Warm Springs and Deep Lodge.

Welch elected exalted ruler of Butte lodge No. 240

Adolphus J. Welch was elected exalted ruler of Butte lodge No. 240, B. P. O. Elks, at a regular meeting in the Elks hall. The session drew a large crowd and discussed many important matters. A social for members and their ladies will follow the March 13 meeting.

Tornado Rips Through Delta Regions Killing Five

A Mississippi Arkansas and Louisiana tornado carved an 800 foot path across Bolivar county killing two people and injuring ten. It struck Kosciusko killing a 65 year old woman and wounding two farm workers. Gregory Arkansas faced near total destruction with $30,000 damage. Overall losses exceed $100,000 with widespread outages and many homes destroyed.

Oil Industry Splits Over Six Day Refinery Cut

Washington dispatch reports a rift among major oil leaders after the federal conservation board urged a six day a week limit on refinery runs to ease a gasoline glut. Standard Oil of New Jersey quickly agreed, seeking broader balance, while R C Holmes of Texas Corp opposed, citing technical and legal difficulties.

Le Duc Released on Bonds in Neck Wound Case

James F. Snyder died at St. James hospital from a neck wound after an altercation with Bert Le Duc. Le Duc, a 55 year old former deputy sheriff, was released on 3500 bonds on a first degree assault charge filed in district court. He is due to plead next Tuesday as Judge Lynch ordered.

Grand Admiral Von Tirpitz Dies At Edenhausen

Grand Admiral Alfred P. Von Tirpitz creator of the German imperial navy died in his sleep at Edenhausen sanitarium near Munich aged almost 81. He had a weakened heart from a February bronchial attack, and died five days before his birthday. His death ends a long, belligerent life linked to unrestricted submarine warfare that drew the United States into World War I. His wife survived him.

Legion to seek medal for youth hero from Butte

The Silver Bow Post of the American Legion will begin efforts to secure a Distinguished Service Cross for a Gold Star mother of Butte. Her 17 year old son was cited for carrying a wounded comrade to safety, 11 days before he died on the battlefield. Continued on Page 16.
