Montana Legislature hits midpoint as GOP celebrates tax relief surge

Montana lawmakers reach the halfway point of the 90 day session with a $1 billion tax relief package praised by House Speaker Matt Regier and Senate President Jason Ellsworth. Republicans tout the largest tax cut in state history while Democrats express frustration over stalled bills and priorities. The eight bill "six pack" expanded to eight and includes income and property tax rebates, business cuts, debt payoff, and road investments totaling about $1 billion. Gov Gianforte is expected to sign, with criticism over a child tax credit and disaster funding.

Tester launches fourth Senate bid at Montana dinner

Prescott Stoneworks Family in Montana History

The Prescott brothers and nephews built a Montana stonecutting business starting in Helena in 1884, supplying monuments and marble. Alonzo Prescott moved from New Hampshire to Helena, then Butte, and by 1897 the firm became L F Prescott's Marble Works with the Butte yard at 425 S Montana St. Please see Gibson, Page A5.

Senate Okays New PSC Districts Drawn From Split Cities

The Montana Senate approved SB109 creating PSC districts that split the state’s largest cities for the first time in two decades. Critics argued the map breaks communities of interest and amounts to gerrymandering while the Legislature sets five districts under a Friday deadline for non revenue bills.
